The Australian Government's Energy Efficient Homes Package is a $3.9 billion package to improve the energy rating of Australian homes - cutting their energy waste, making them more comfortable and helping home owners save up to 40 per cent on their electricity bills. Under the program, assistance of up to $1,200 is available to help eligible owner’s and property investors to install ceiling insulation in their existing properties.

Are you eligible?

Not all insulations are the same and not all installers are certified and experienced. Green Option Home Insulation has been in the industry for years and have trained professional’s that provide a hassle free service from start to finish.

You are eligible for free ceiling insulation if you:

• are a home owner-occupier - that is, you live in your own home;
• don't already have ceiling insulation or have ceiling insulation that is deemed as having negligible effectiveness;
• are installing insulation in an existing home on or after 1 July 2009 (excludes new homes or extensions to existing homes, BCA requires insulation in all new homes from 2003, so homes built before then are unfortunately not covered. If you don’t have insulation installed and your home is post 2003, contact your builder.);
• have not been granted assistance under the solar hot water rebate program since the rebate was increased to $1,200 on 3 February 2009;
• arrange installation by an authorised installer using insulation that meets required specifications and standards; and
• are an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 years or over.

How the program works?

After 1 July 2009 all you will need to do is ring the free hotline and make a booking. The call centre will take your details and confirm your eligibility. A properly-trained installer will visit your house, assess your insulation needs, and install it for you. PLEASE NOTE: To qualify for the assistance, the insulation must be installed by an installer who owns or is employed by a registered business operating in the installation of thermal insulation.

• A quote will be sent, once accepted and scheduled for install. Green option accredited installers will complete the job quickly and carefully. (Standard installs take around 2-4 hours to complete)
• The federal government picks up the bill up to $1200, so no upfront costs, the government pays us directly. Anything over $1200 the property owner is to pay to our office within 7 days of the install.

When does it start?

Right Now…the program kicked off July 1st 2009 and will continue until December 2011.  
The Australian Government has introduced the Energy Efficient Homes Rebate in a bid to reduce carbon gas emissions in Australian homes.

Insulating your home will:

• Save over 2 tons of greenhouse gas emission each year.
• Save $200 - $400 on power bills each year.
• Reduce the temperature inside your home by 8-12ºC in summer.
• Increase the efficiency of air-conditioners and heaters.
• Reduce noise transmission.
• Improve comfort year around.

The Insulation Program offers ceiling insulation installed worth up to $1,200 to owner-occupiers or up to $1,200 for owner’s of investment properties (There is no limit on the number of properties you own, each eligible property will receive up to $1,200) The program targets homeowners who are currently uninsulated, or have ceiling insulation that is considered ineffective. If the total cost of installation is less than $1,200 there will be no cost for the home owner. The average 3 bedroom home of 120m² is estimated to cost $1200.

Who is eligible for the free insulation rebate?

To be eligible for the insulation rebate from the government you must:-

• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18 years or over;
• Be the owner and occupier of the dwelling; or own an investment property.
• Don’t already have ceiling insulation or have ceiling insulation that is deemed ineffective.

$1200 Renters Rebate

The Australian Government is now offering up to $1,200 per home to help people install ceiling insulation in existing rental properties. The Plan targets rental properties that are currently uninsulated, or have ceiling insulation with an R-value of 0.5 or less.
A landlord or tenant may apply, although a tenant must obtain permission from their landlord before installing ceiling insulation.
The program starts on 1 July 2009 and will run until 30 December 2011.
